Hello,
It was lovely to see lots of familiar and some new faces at the season launch which was held a few weeks ago. For those who were unable to join us and who have not yet seen what the next season contains then we are delighted to announce that the season launches in September with Calendar Girls, followed in October by Cluedo and then a small cast musical called Nunsense in November. The annual Panto in January will be Jack and the Beanstalk and then our March play is the popular TV favourite Keeping up appearances and to end the season the musical in May 2026 is Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
We hope that you will find many shows that you would like to come and see or be part of creating in the upcoming season.
The sold-out Vicar of Dibley has recently finished its run, and the feedback has been excellent! We hope you enjoyed it if you managed to secure a ticket in time!
Rehearsals for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are well under way, and this promises to be a vibrant and exciting production of this classic story. Please support your theatre and book to come and support the wonderful cast and creative team. There are two fabulous sets of talented children bringing the iconic roles of Augustus Gloop, Mike Teevee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregard and Charlie Bucket to life. They will be performing on alternative nights so why not come and see them both!
We announced last month that the President elect for the ‘26/27 season is Michelle Browne. Michelle will have the exciting task of selecting the productions that LPS will stage in her season. To do this she will be forming a reading committee of people to propose and review what could form part of her season. If anyone would like to be involved in the reading committee then please email Michelle on Michelle.browne@louthplaygoers.co.uk.
We hope that you have had a chance to look at our internal website https://theatrenet.louthplaygoers.co.uk/home where there is a wealth of information on all things relating to the Riverhead Theatre and Louth Playgoers Society.
Details of the committees which report to the board are all listed on the website and anyone with an interest in joining a committee and helping shape the future of the society will find all the information on there.
On the topic of the board, you should have all recently received an email about an extraordinary general meeting which is being held on 27th May 2025 at 7.30pm in the Studio at the Riverhead Theatre.
The purpose of the meeting is to allow members to vote on the proposal to reduce the number of board members from 12 to 8. To be eligible for a vote a good membership must be held.
A couple of days after that will be our final social of the season, please see details below.
This promises to be a fun sociable event, and we hope to see lots of you there.
Last but certainly not least we would like to extend our gratitude to all the amazing volunteers who make Louth Playgoers Society continue to thrive. Every volunteer plays their part in keeping our theatre and society going, whether that’s helping on the bar, selling ice creams, checking tickets, creating and building the set, making and designing costumes, lighting the stage, working on the sound desk, booking and checking tickets, welcoming audiences, performing, chaperoning, being art of the creative teams, the list is endless. If getting involved in any capacity appeals to you then please get in touch onadmin@louthplaygoers.co.uk.

Playgoers Society Secures £17,000 Grant: Essential Upgrades Programmed
We are delighted to share some fantastic news, Louth Riverhead Theatre has been awarded a £17,000 grant from the Grassroots Grants scheme to support vital upgrades to our facilities. This funding will help cover the cost of renewing our air-conditioning system and upgrading our Building Management System (BMS), ensuring a more comfortable and efficient environment for our audiences, performers, and staff.
Although the BMS upgrade has already been completed, the funding providers have generously allowed us to apply the grant towards this essential work, as the invoice has not yet been received or paid.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of Carol Tinkler and Clare Holland. Carol’s commitment to securing funding opportunities, combined with Clare’s invaluable bid-writing skills, made this grant a reality. Their collaboration is a shining example of what can be accomplished when we work together towards a common goal.
With this success, we are excited to build on our efforts and continue seeking funding through a structured grant bidding strategy, helping us enhance the theatre for future generations.
A huge thank you to Carol and Clare for their incredible work, and to Grassroots Grants for their support in improving our theatre. We look forward to welcoming our community into a more comfortable and sustainable space!
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to plan to invest in the future of Louth Riverhead Theatre.

Membership Newsletter: March
Hello all.
We hope that you’re enjoying the start of springtime and the brighter days. We have a lot of updates for you about what’s been happening in the world of Louth Playgoers Society.
The opening of the much-anticipated Vicar of Dibley is almost upon us. We are delighted to report that the show sold out a few weeks before opening night, so we hope that you’ve managed to secure a ticket!
Rehearsals for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are in full swing and this promises to be an excellent end to the season.
Looking ahead to the next season we would like to remind everyone of the upcoming season launch social on Monday 17th March. This will introduce you to the productions which will form the ‘25/26 season and give you a chance to hear from the President and directors and find out how to get involved. Everyone is welcome to attend. The theatre bar will be open from 7pm.
We are also delighted to announce that the President elect for the ‘26/27 season is Michelle Browne. Michelle will have the exciting task of selecting the productions that LPS will stage in her season. To do this she will be forming a reading committee of people to propose and review what could form part of her season. If anyone would like to be considered for inclusion in the reading committee then please email Michelle on Michelle.browne@louthplaygoers.co.uk. Depending on the level of interest it might not be possible for everyone who expresses an interest to form part of the reading committee.
For those who came to the open day about the future of Louth Playgoers at the start of February you may recall that one of the topics discussed was the purpose and vision of LPS. Thank you to those who gave their input and/or responded to the consultation about this. The next step is that the board of directors will be reviewing the results and then use the feedback to propose a focussed number of options to be voted on.
The theatre is still on the hunt for a Marketing Assistant to assist with promoting the wonderful variety of productions held at the Riverhead. If you know of anyone who would be interested then please let them know about this opportunity. (see ad below)
We have recently welcomed Jed Spittle on to the board of directors. Jed joins the board with a wealth of experience in theatre management and was recently seen treading the boards as the Sultan in Dick Whittington. Another warm welcome is made to Claire Holland, who has recently joined the GRF (Governance, Risk and Finance) committee. Claire has a background in bid writing and brings valuable experience to the table which is already being put to use to target several bids for the benefit of the theatre, including environment defence and solar panels alongside more aspirational bids for expansion.
Another committee which has recently been formed is the membership, staff and volunteer (MSV) committee. We hope to have representatives from all the departments in the theatre on this committee and would welcome anyone with an interest in shaping and supporting the experience for members, staff and volunteers at the theatre to also join. Volunteers are at the heart of the theatre’s success, and we simply could not function without them.
There are so many ways to get involved at the theatre and the time commitment can be as much or as little as you can manage but the more people involved the merrier! Please contact the theatre on admin@louthplaygoers.co.uk if you would like to volunteer in any capacity or feel free to speak to a member of the board or the membership committee. The details of all the committees can be found on the internal theatre website, TheatreNet. If you think that there are any areas in which you have relevant experience then please let us know.
The TheatreNet also contains a wealth of information and the latest news about the theatre. It is also a place to share feedback about any aspects of the theatre so please take a look. We hope to see you at the season launch or at the theatre sometime soon.
Thank you!

Membership Newsletter: January
Hello everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all!
We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas. It was lovely to see some of you at the Christmas social held on 22nd December and we look forward to making this a regular part of the LPS calendar. Thank you to everyone who came along and to those who were involved in the organising and entertainment.
Looking back to December we held auditions for The Vicar of Dibley. We have a fantastic cast of talented performers who are busy rehearsing and getting ready to bring this much loved comedy to the main stage in March.
Panto season is upon us and we are mere days away from opening night for the much anticipated Dick Whittington.
This show promises to be a highlight of the LPS season and the cast and crew have been working tirelessly to put on a wonderful production. Please come and support your theatre and all of the people who are putting their all in to it, you won’t be disappointed!
Towards the end of January there are auditions for the Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As mentioned in the December newsletter the principal children have already been cast, so these auditions are for the adult cast. The minimum age to audition is 12. Full details are available on the theatre website.
Also at the end of January (Sunday 26th January) is a meeting being held at the theatre regarding the future of the Riverhead Theatre. Details were included in the December newsletter and are shown below.
We would encourage as many people as possible with an interest in the theatre to attend so that you can hear from the Chairman of the board of directors about our future plans.
On the same day we are going to hold some ‘volunteer training’ to give people the opportunity to try out the different areas in the public facing volunteer roles. It will be a chance to try your hand on the bar, kiosk, front of house and box office to familiarise yourself with what those roles entail and hopefully encourage members to volunteer in these essential areas.
Please come along if you feel that you could offer to volunteer in any of these roles or if you would like to refresh your training. The training will be held between 12pm-2pm on a drop in basis so if you cannot attend the whole session then there will still be some time to pick up on some of the training.
We are indebted to our fabulous volunteers, without them giving up their free time the theatre simply could not exist. The New Year is a perfect opportunity to try out something new, meet more people and show your support for our wonderful theatre. We would be delighted to have you on board.
There are so many areas of the theatre where people can utilise their skills and interests.
Some of the key departments who are always looking for assistance include:
Costume
Backstage set building/painting
Crew
Lighting
Sound
Front of house/bar/kiosk/box office
If you would like to get involved in any aspect of volunteering at the theatre then please email admin@louthplaygoers.co.uk or feel free to email the membership team and we will point you in the right direction.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support of Louth Playgoers and we hope to see you at the Riverhead Theatre soon.
Thank you!

Help Shape The Future Of Our Society
As a valued member of the Louth Playgoers Society, your voice matters in shaping the future of our organisation.
For many years, our purpose - our guiding principle - has remained central to everything we do. This purpose, officially known as the object of the charity, is as follows:
"To promote the advancement and implementation of general education in relation to all aspects of the art of drama and the development of public appreciation of such art, together with the advancement of all other forms of the arts and the development of the appreciation of the public."
While this statement has served us well, we believe it is important to reflect on whether it still fully aligns with the work we do today and how we envision serving our community in the future. As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, we want to ensure that our activities, projects, and initiatives remain in harmony with this purpose or, if needed, evolve to reflect the changing needs and aspirations of our community.
We Need Your Input
This is where we’d like to hear from you, our valued members.
• Does our current purpose reflect what you believe the Society stands for?
• Do you feel it accurately captures our mission and role in the community?
• Should it remain as it is, be subtly reworded for clarity, or be redefined to better reflect our vision for the future?
Your feedback will play a vital role in shaping the future direction of the Louth Playgoers Society and ensuring we remain relevant, impactful, and true to our mission.
Why This Matters
By participating, you’re helping ensure that Louth Playgoers Society and the Riverhead Theatre remains a vital part of our community, a place that nurtures creativity, inspires appreciation for the arts, and brings people together for years to come.
